Cherry Picker, the team behind the creation of D1AL-ogue, previously revealed that their four-member development squad faced financial hurdles while working on the sequel, D1AL-ogue+, prompting them to explore crowdfunding options to bring the project to fruition.
More recently, the developers shared a May development update on the first game’s Steam store page, confirming that they have successfully established a crowdfunding initiative despite earlier setbacks, with plans to launch the campaign sometime this summer.
As of this month, the fundamental planning phase for D1AL-ogue+ has been wrapped up. The game’s scope is now set, encompassing 20 characters, the primary ending, and additional fresh content. Although these components are still under development, Cherry Picker intends to expand upon them and add layers of depth as the project advances.
Among the completed tasks are new character animations for Pray, Lianne, Blade, Maya, and Himiko. Additionally, a fresh character named Clen is in the works. To offer fans insight into the development progress, the team has assessed each aspect of the game. The overall art is 40% complete, while the writing and programming stand at 60% complete respectively.
The next priority is to enhance the sequel’s storyline, which the developers have stated will feature “over 8x more story content” compared to the original. New characters will be introduced, and unresolved plot points and hints from the first game will be addressed. D1AL-ogue+ is shaping up to be a more non-linear experience, where player decisions will influence the narrative’s direction. Alongside the narrative, new characters and puzzle mechanics are also being developed.
The original D1AL-ogue was released in February for Windows (Steam) as a free title, following repair clinic manager Chris as he fixes female androids called EVE (Electronic Vital Entities). By using the D1AL diagnostic console and solving color-matching puzzles, players uncover more about the androids’ backgrounds. After earning an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, announcements for a sequel were made just over a month after the initial game’s launch.
D1AL-ogue+ remains in active development.
