The doujin project RE:BEL ROBOTICA by Mika Pikazo confirms its anime adaptation

Mika Pikazo brings her 2017 project about humanity in a world where happiness is natural to the anime.

A project that started as an independent doujin work in 2017 has just taken its biggest leap in history. RE:BEL ROBOTICA, originally created by illustrator Mika Pikazo, has officially confirmed its anime adaptation alongside a new promotional image drawn by the author herself featuring the mysterious girl Lily smiling as she extends her hand toward the viewer.

The universe of RE:BEL ROBOTICA is not a new concept. Mika Pikazo began it as a self-published doujin work in 2017, and it later expanded through RE:BEL ROBOTICA Episode #Ξ², developed with screenwriter Ryo Yoshigami, known for his work on the PSYCHO-PASS series. In 2022, two novel adaptations were released: RE:BEL ROBOTICA 0 and RE:BEL ROBOTICA, written by Gakuto Mikumo.

The new anime will inherit the original project’s world but tell a completely new story. The setting is Shibuya in 2050, in a near future where happiness has become something everyone can enjoy naturally. The story explores what it means to live within duties and restrictions in this context and how to find meaning in the world from there. Mika Pikazo explained that since childhood she has been fascinated by the idea of happiness, and this work was born from continuing to ask herself these questions over time.

The anime will make its first public appearance at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles from July 2 to 5, where a teaser currently in production will be shown. Attendees will also receive a special booklet related to the project and see appearances in panels and special exhibitions. No information is available yet on the studio, cast, production team, or release date.

About RE:BEL ROBOTICA

RE:BEL ROBOTICA is a science fiction project created by Mika Pikazo, an illustrator recognized in the anime community for character designs for titles like VirtuaReal and her work as a key visual designer for industry events. The story, set in Shibuya in 2050, starts with questions about the nature of happiness in a society where this emotion is no longer scarce, and explores the lives of people who still seek meaning in a seemingly complete world. The promotional image of Lily, the protagonist with expressive eyes, sets the visual tone that Pikazo has built around the project over nearly a decade.

Does a science fiction anime set in the Shibuya of 2050 with happiness as its central theme seem like a distinct enough proposal to stand out in the market, or would you prefer to see more material before deciding?
