On the second day of Famitsu’s 40th anniversary livestreamGod Eater game director Hiroshi Yoshimura addressed questions regarding the franchise’s future. While unable to provide official details, he touched upon the fan correspondence the development team has been receiving and shared his personal connection to God Eater:

“If you’re asking whether we’re working on anything behind the scenes, that depends on what you mean by ‘behind the scenes.’ If you’re referring to what’s on my mind, I’d say it’s a very important intellectual property. For me, it’s an integral part of my youth.”

Yoshimura has directed multiple entries in the series, including the original God Eater (released in Japan in 2010), its international version Gods Eater Burst, and the 2015 remaster, God Eater Resurrection. He also returned as director for God Eater 2 and its expansion, God Eater 2: Rage Burst, released in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Additionally, Yoshimura co-directed God Eater 3 alongside Wataru Atsumi and Ittetsu Suzuki, which launched in 2018.

“Fans have been sending all sorts of messages expressing their enthusiasm, and I’ve really taken those to heart,” Yoshimura shared with Famitsu. “Although I can’t share specific information, I’m truly grateful for those messages.”

With seven years having passed since the worldwide release of God Eater 3, it’s no surprise that fans are eagerly awaiting a new installment in the series. When Famitsu’s representative suggested directing requests for a new game to Bandai Namco, Yoshimura simply responded, “We’d appreciate that.”
