Hideki Kamiya, the visionary behind the original Resident Evil and the acclaimed director of Resident Evil 2, recently took a moment to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary. He expressed admiration for the monumental growth of the series that launched his illustrious career in gaming. Kamiya extended his congratulations to the dedicated team at Capcom for their relentless efforts, playfully requesting the inclusion of a non-scary mode as he often does.

Despite Kamiya’s well-documented aversion to horror, fans eagerly petitioned him to helm a new Resident Evil title, envisioning his unique take on the matured adventures of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. One particularly creative fan suggested, “You can even make all the enemies look like tofu or something,” injecting a touch of humor into the request.

While Kamiya politely declined the notion of a survival horror game, he surprised everyone with an imaginative concept for a laid-back, life-simulation Resident Evil experience centered around a retired Leon.

“If I were to create it,” Kamiya mused, “it would depict a retired Leon embracing rural life—fishing by the stream, foraging for wild vegetables, baking fresh bread, strolling with his dog, tending to his garden, making the long drive to the nearest store, hosting barbecues with old friends, helping his elderly neighbor with repairs, and selling homemade lemonade at the village festival. Would that still interest you?”

Kamiya’s fans wholeheartedly embraced the idea, responding with a resounding affirmation. Japanese commenters expressed enthusiasm for a “Resident Evil Pokopia” and the delightful prospect of witnessing Leon’s well-deserved peaceful retirement.

Encouraged by the overwhelming support, Kamiya playfully turned to Capcom, noting, “Capcom, it seems there’s significant demand for a Resident not-Evil game of this nature. Should you ever find the time, please consider developing it—I’d love to play it too…”
