Fetishes and Yakuza: The Kizuguchi to Hotai manga announces its anime adaptation

Studio J.C. Staff will adapt this quirky romantic comedy about mobsters in January 2027.

Fans of twisted romantic comedies now have something new to add to their list. The production committee behind the franchise has officially announced that the original manga Kizuguchi to Hotai (Wound and Bandage) will make its big leap to television with its own animated adaptation. The studio J.C. Staff will bring this quirky project to life, confirming the series will air during the January 2027 season, accompanied by a couple of curious visual arts.

Unlike typical dark mob stories, the narrative follows Riyo Washizu, the daughter of the leader of the yakuza organization controlling the Kanto region. To protect her, the group assigns Go Kiritani, a young and deadly subordinate who assumes his job is simply to babysit a docile girl. However, he quickly discovers his charge hides a dark and twisted fetish: she is fascinated by seeing extremely strong and tough people when they are at their weakest and most vulnerable. This strange dynamic was created by Umihoshi Nanai, who began serializing the work in Kodansha’s Comic Days app in August 2024.

An expert team in criminal comedies

To ensure this strange chemistry works on screen, the studio assigned Miyuki Ishida as director. The scripts are in excellent hands under the supervision of Susumu Yamakawa, who has already proven himself an expert at mixing humor and yakuza after writing for the three seasons of The Way of the Househusband. Finally, character designs will be handled by Natsuki Oyama. This solid technical team revealed the first two concept images of the project: one showing the protagonists’ normal side and another highlighting the submissive side of the deadly mobster to illustrate the series’ central concept.

Considering J.C. Staff often has a packed schedule each year, do you think they will maintain consistent animation quality for this comedic gem or will it be another series affected by the tight industry schedules?
