Reincarnating into your favorite video game sounds like the perfect plan, unless fate makes you the comedic side character. The light novel series Magical Explorer: Reborn as a Side Character in a Fantasy Dating Sim (Magical Explorer), written by Iris and illustrated by Noboru Kannatsuki, has officially confirmed its animated adaptation will premiere on Japanese television next October. The announcement came with the first official trailer and a promotional image showcasing the series’ visual style.

The story follows a fan who wakes up in the world of Magical Explorer, a legendary magic dating simulator. Instead of becoming the powerful protagonist surrounded by a harem, he becomes Kosuke Takioto, the unlucky side character who never wins any girl. Rather than despair, Kosuke uses his deep knowledge of the game’s secrets, events, and hidden mechanics to secretly train, become absurdly strong, and help the beautiful heroines achieve their happy endings.

A renowned studio and star-studded cast

The animation is being handled by acclaimed studio WHITE FOX, directed by Kazuki Ohashi. Scripts are supervised by Satoko Sekine, Ryosuke Kimiya adapts the character designs, and Kenichiro Suehiro composes the soundtrack. The franchise began as a web novel in 2018 before transitioning to print in 2019, accumulating thirteen volumes and positioning itself as one of the most entertaining isekai debuts of the fall season.
