Ohtani Design Laboratory launches V-Nade!, a system for petting virtual characters.
The future is now, and Japanese companies know exactly where to invest their millions. Tech company Ohtani Design Laboratory officially announced the launch of the V-Nade! project, an innovative system part of the Teno-Verse initiative. What does this wonder do? Basically, it allows fans to pet the heads of their favorite virtual talents and waifus in real-time during events and autograph sessions.
The most fascinating thing about this technology is that it completely eliminates the need for clumsy gloves, special controllers, or dirty touch screens. The user simply places their hand on an intelligent sensor and makes petting motions in the air. Immediately, a holographic hand appears on screen perfectly mimicking the motion, triggering animations in the character. Additionally, the system allows two-way communication, so the VTuber on the other side of the monitor can see exactly where on their head they are being petted and react with live voice to drive fans wild.
The V-Nade! system is compatible with both 2D and 3D models, and can even be used with preprogrammed static illustrations. It is expected that this invention will dominate upcoming anime events, themed cafes, and otaku conventions. This advancement adds to other recent technologies like Feel Tech by Docomo, which uses haptic devices to let fans feel vibrations synced with internet stars’ concerts, showing that the community is willing to pay anything to bridge the gap with their favorite characters.
