The yuri manga Watanare concludes its first part and announces sequel

The Watanare manga concluded its first part and confirmed the sequel Second Season for 2027.

Romantic entanglement stories between girls hold a special place in the audience’s heart, and this popular title is ready to tackle a new stage. To the delight of all fans of the yuri genre, the manga adaptation of the romantic comedy Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Naijan, Muri Muri! Muri Janakatta!? (affectionately known as Watanare) published the final chapter of its first part, immediately confirming the production of a direct sequel.

The first part of the adaptation illustrated by mangaka Musshu, who has been leading the project since its debut in May 2020, formally concluded on July 31. It was confirmed that the tenth compiled volume will be released in December of this year, while the eleventh and final volume will arrive in stores in 2027. However, Renako’s story won’t stop there: illustrator Eru Kudo announced that they will take over to draw the second part of the manga, titled Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Naijan, Muri Muri! Muri Janakatta!? ~Second Season~ and scheduled to debut between January and February 2027.

Born originally as a series of light novels written by Teren Mikami and illustrated by Eku Takushima, this gem introduces Renako Amaori, a withdrawn girl seeking to reinvent herself in high school. Everything takes a chaotic turn when she meets Mai Ouzuka, a popular millionaire model who unexpectedly confesses her love. While Renako insists that being best friends is the best option, Mai is determined to prove they are destined to be lovers, triggering a wild dynamic of fake dates and romantic rivalries. The immense success of this work solidified after receiving its own animated television adaptation in July 2025, followed by a five-episode sequel special earlier this year.

With a new illustrator set to bring the next chapters of this chaotic yuri comedy to life in 2027, do you think this artistic style change will give the relationship between Renako and Mai a fresh and more expressive feel?
