The Re:Zero anime confirms it has another ten years of story left
Sho Tanaka reveals the series is nearly 13 episodes and they’re starting another decade.

If you thought Subaru had already paid his dues with suffering in this isekai, prepare for a long journey ahead. During the tenth anniversary events for the franchise, executive producer Sho Tanaka made it clear that the animated adaptation of Re:Zero is far from its end and they’re practically starting a new decade of content.

The story behind this success wasn’t always easy. Tanaka recalled how in 2016, when preparing the first season, several executives had no confidence in the project and the budget was so tight they almost ended up with a short adaptation of just thirteen episodes. Luckily, the production team fought to get approval for the full twenty-five episodes, allowing the adaptation of the first arcs of Tappei Nagatsuki‘s light novels as they should be.
That risk paid off and cemented the foundations of a massive phenomenon. After a second season aired between 2020 and 2021, and a third season split between late 2024 and early 2025, the franchise is currently in the midst of its fourth season, which premiered in April 2026. With over sixteen million copies in circulation worldwide, the work proved that the community remains hungry for surprises, allowing Tanaka to plan the next ten years of adaptations without rush but without pause.

Written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shinichiro Otsuka, the saga began as a light novel that revolutionized the genre by introducing Subaru Natsuki, an ordinary young man who ends up in a parallel world with a power both powerful and devastating: returning in time every time he dies. With its combination of mystery, high psychological tension moments, and unforgettable characters, the story became an undisputed reference in Japanese entertainment.
