No one saw this twist coming, but one of the most memorable stories from the past decade is set to completely rewrite its fate. Kadokawaโ€™s Dengeki Bunko publishing label has officially confirmed that the popular Black Bullet (Burakku Buretto) light novel series will return with a reboot project titled Black Bullet: New World Order, which will not only add new content but also change the storyโ€™s direction to deliver a completely different ending from the original.

The publishing strategy outlined by the label will be extremely fast, releasing two volumes each month from November 2026 to February 2027. The volumes scheduled for November and December 2026 will compile the original storyโ€™s events with several additions and text revisions. However, the main highlight will begin in January 2027, when the narrative takes a completely different direction from what we knew.

The definitive conclusion will arrive in February 2027 with an original ending that will conclude in the volume Black Bullet: New World Order 05 Book 2 – Justice & Unjustice, a completely new title that never existed in the original run. To top it off, author Shiden Kanzaki wonโ€™t rest after closing this cycle, as he will debut a completely original work titled Aku no Shinzui (The Quintessence of Evil) under the same publishing label in spring 2027.

Written by Shiden Kanzaki and illustrated by Saki Ukai, the original light novel series began its publication in July 2011 and comprised seven volumes until April 2014. The franchise inspired a manga adaptation by Hon Morino in the Dengeki Maoh magazine, as well as a popular anime adaptation produced by Kinema Citrus and Orange studios in spring 2014.

The story is set in a near future where humanity has been cornered by the Gastrea, a viral parasite race that forced survivors to live behind Monolite metal walls. The plot follows Rentaro Satomi, a young Civil Security contractor, and his initiator Enju Aihara, a “Cursed Child” with superhuman abilities, as they take on high-risk missions to protect Tokyo from total annihilation.

What do you think of the decision to rewrite Black Bulletโ€™s story with a completely new ending?
