Reincarnating as a vampire and being born into a noble family should be enough to have life sorted, right? Well, it seems Mercedes Grunewald wasn’t so lucky. The anime adaptation of Mercedes and the Waning Moon: The Dungeoneering Feats of a Discarded Vampire Aristocrat has released its second promotional trailer, along with the addition of four new voice actors. The series is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 on Japanese television.

The trailer shows new combat scenes and allows listeners to hear several characters who will accompany Mercedes on her adventures. Notable additions include Kenta Miyake, known for voicing All Might in My Hero Academia, and Junichi Suwabe, the voice of Ryomen Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen. So, at least in terms of voice acting, this young vampire will be in good company.

A vampire who must earn a living from childhood

The story follows Mercedes Grunewald, a woman who died without finding a true purpose in life and was reincarnated as a young vampire in an aristocratic family. The problem is that her father has other priorities and will eventually choose an heir who isn’t her. To make matters worse, her mother is a marginalized concubine, the family lacks resources, and they don’t have many people to rely on.

Given this situation, Mercedes finds a peculiar solution: exploring dungeons to earn money. After all, in this world, anyone can become an explorer, even a child who is barely old enough for kindergarten. Using her vampire abilities, she begins training at a young age to support her family and ensure her second life isn’t as disappointing as her first.

However, becoming an explorer won’t be as simple as she expects. Dungeons hide dangerous monsters and mysteries Mercedes must uncover while improving her skills. The new trailer also introduces some of her future companions, including Benkei, a six-armed creature, and Kuro, a wolf-like monster who will become one of her allies.

The anime adds voices from Jujutsu Kaisen and KonoSuba

Regarding the voice cast, it was confirmed that Anna Nagase will voice Mercedes Grunewald, an actress known for playing Ushio Kofune in Summer Time Rendering. The four additional cast members announced are as follows:

• Benkei: Kenta Miyake, known for voicing All Might in My Hero Academia.
• Kuro: Ryunosuke Watanuki, who previously voiced Okuhito Iemon in Blue Lock.
• Florian: Junichi Suwabe, recognized for voicing Ryomen Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen.
• Ryudia Grunewald: Ai Kayano, the voice of Darkness in KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!.

Among the new characters, Florian stands out as a guild worker who shows particular interest in Mercedes’s activities. In fact, Junichi Suwabe hinted that his character may not be a true ally and could betray the protagonist, so his true intentions will need to be watched closely.

The production team includes Kunihisa Sugishima as director at Teddy studios, with Jun Kumagai handling series composition. Character designs are by Nami Shoyama, while R.O.N and Shuhei Mutsuki are responsible for the music.

It’s worth noting that the original story, written by Firehead, began publishing on the Shosetsuka ni Narou portal in 2018 before receiving a light novel adaptation under TO Books with illustrations by KeG in 2021. That same year, a manga adaptation illustrated by Pochi Edoya also began. The series is known in Japan as Kaketa Tsuki no Mercedes.
