Mashle will bring its muscles to the real world: it will have a live-action movie

Warner Bros. and the producers of Kingdom are preparing a live-action adaptation for March 2027, and we already have a first glimpse of Mash Burnedead.

It seems that punching mages is no longer enough for Mash Burnedead, as now he will also have to do it with actors. It has been officially announced that Mashle: Magic and Muscles will have a live-action movie, based on the popular manga by Hajime Komoto. The production will hit Japanese cinemas on March 19, 2027, accompanied by a first promotional image that keeps the identity of the lead actor a secret.

The poster shows Mash from behind, wearing his signature uniform from Easton Magic Academy. However, instead of a magic wand, our muscular protagonist holds a dumbbell, making it clear that his problem-solving methods will remain the same. For now, the actor who will play Mash will be revealed on November 5, while the director and other cast members have not yet been announced.

The producers of Kingdom will work on Mashle’s live-action

Regarding the production, Warner Bros. and Fuji TV will be in charge of the project, while CREDEUS will handle the production. This company has experience bringing popular Japanese stories to the big screen, including the live-action films of Kingdom and productions like Kokuho. Meanwhile, TOHO will be responsible for distributing the film in Japan.

Warner Bros.’ involvement is also curious, considering the company was behind the Harry Potter films, a franchise with which Mashle is often compared due to its school setting and magical world. Although, of course, here we have a protagonist who prefers to resolve any conflict using his muscles rather than learning a single spell.

For those unfamiliar with the story, Mashle: Magic and Muscles takes place in a world where magic determines almost every aspect of society. The problem is that Mash Burnedead was born without the ability to use it, so he has spent most of his life training physically while living hidden in the forest with his adoptive father. When his existence is discovered, he ends up enrolling in a prestigious magic academy, where he will attempt to become a Divine Visionary using only his superhuman strength.

It should be remembered that the original manga by Hajime Komoto was published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between January 2020 and July 2023, concluding with a total of 18 compiled volumes. The franchise also received an anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures, with its first season premiering in April 2023 and the second in January 2024. The latter gained special fame thanks to Bling-Bang-Bang-Born, the catchy opening theme performed by Creepy Nuts.

Furthermore, the third season of the anime will arrive in January 2027, just two months before the live-action film’s release. This means fans will have plenty of content from the franchise during the first months of next year. For now, no details have been revealed about which part of the manga the film will adapt or if it will have distribution outside Japan.

Are you excited to see Mash Burnedead portrayed by a real actor, or do you think his absurd displays of strength work better in animation?
