Japanese development studio 213โ„‰ (Fahrenheit 213), headed by former Fate/Grand Order and Dissidia: Final Fantasy creative director Yosuke Shiokawa, has recently unveiled their latest project, Lunar Pulse. This single-player roguelite card game is slated for a 2027 launch on PC (Steam).

In Lunar Pulse, players engage in ultra-short, high-stakes card battles between witches. The game is set in a dark, moonlit realm that exists outside of conventional space-time. The narrative follows protagonist Lilith of Heresy, who unwittingly becomes the thirteenth participant in a perilous, mysterious ritual. Forced to confront twelve other witches, Lilith must survive the ritual to emerge victorious.

The gameplay involves rapid 1-on-1 duels that typically last around 60 seconds. Players wield a 15-card deck and a 5-card hand to challenge opposing witches. With both hands visible, participants must simultaneously play one card each, creating a tense, strategic exchange.

While the full card game mechanics remain under wraps, revealed cards include Strike, Dodge, Parry, and Guard. The developers have intentionally drawn inspiration from soulslike games, aiming for a “souslike tension” in the card battles. Players must predict their opponentโ€™s moves and select the optimal counter-card in a Rock-Paper-Scissors dynamicโ€”Parry beats Strike, while matching Strikes result in a draw. After each failed attempt, players can refine and personalize their deck to suit their preferred strategy.

Lunar Pulse offers multiple branching endings, with player choices dictating the outcome. The Steam store page suggests that uncovering all endings is key to unraveling the gameโ€™s story, including the mysteries surrounding Lilith of Heresy and the witchesโ€™ deadly ritual.

Lunar Pulse is scheduled to release in 2027 for PC (Steam).
