With Resident Evil Requiem offering the option to select between a third-person and first-person viewpoint for Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, the game’s default settings place Leon’s segments in third person and Grace’s in first person. In a conversation with Denfaminicogamer following the game’s launch, director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa disclosed that most players stuck with the preset perspectives.

Nakanishi shared that data collected one month after Requiem’s release showed approximately 90% of players opted for third-person during their initial playthrough of Leon’s action-heavy chapters. For Grace’s horror-centric parts, the split was closer, with 60% adhering to the default first-person view and 40% switching to third person.

It was also noted that perspective preferences varied by region and platform. Players in Japan and other Asian territories showed a stronger preference for third-person gameplay, while PC gamers were more inclined toward first-person perspectives.
The current findings align with insights gathered from Resident Evil Requiem’s demo sessions. Developers observed that player POV choices might correlate with their gaming backgrounds, suggesting Western players, familiar with FPS titles such as Doom, favor first-person views, whereas Japanese players, accustomed to third-person RPGs like Dragon Quest, lean toward third-person perspectives. While this trend isn’t universal, it remains a significant consideration for the Resident Evil series.
Resident Evil Requiem is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows (Steam).
