Celebrated Japanese developer Level-5, the creative minds behind the Inazuma Eleven and Yo-kai Watch franchises, took a stand against game piracy on May 13 with a formal announcement.
The company revealed it has detected unauthorized copies and distributions of their titles within “specific online communities.” Level-5 issued a stern warning that it will pursue legal remedies against any copyright violations, including unauthorized reproduction, modification, distribution, or sale of their game software.
Although the company hasn’t specified the exact nature of these copyright breaches, industry observers speculate the statement might be connected to a fan project that recently gained traction on X, drawing interest from fans worldwide. Initially shared via an account that has since been deleted on May 10, the project envisioned a complete, unauthorized Spanish remake of Yo-Kai Watch 2 for Switch, mobile, PC, and VR platforms, built entirely using Unity. The proposal faced significant backlash from Japanese fans over potential legal issues. Given Level-5’s recent warning and the subsequent removal of the project’s announcement, it appears unlikely that this remake effort will proceed.
