Is this the successor to Shokugeki no Soma? Iron Wok Jan sets its premiere for July
TROYCA brings back this classic 90s series where cooking is an all-out war.
If you thought the culinary anime genre had reached its peak with the epic wardrobe tears and culinary orgasms of Shokugeki no Soma, it’s time to return to the most extreme roots of the genre. Studio TROYCA has just released the main trailer for Iron Wok Jan (Tetsunabe no Jan!), confirming that this legendary wok war will hit television on July 5. The trailer makes it clear that we’re not here to see tender recipes; this is pure competitive brutality spiced up with “Hien,” the opening by vocal group Genin wa Jibun ni Aru.
A voice squad to ignite the kitchen
To ensure that the screams, the wok hits, and the tension feel like we’re in the final of a death tournament, the production committee assembled a top-tier cast of seiyuus. To the team we already knew, led by Kikunosuke Toya and with the imposing narration of legendary Kenjiro Tsuda, veteran voices join that will shake the stoves:
- Takahiro Sakurai as Kei Sawada.
The very same Suguru Geto in Jujutsu Kaisen and Giyuu Tomioka in Demon Slayer, bringing all his acting weight to the battles. - Yusuke Kobayashi as Yuji Kawahara.
Immortalized in otaku culture as Subaru Natsuki in Re:Zero and Senku Ishigami in Dr. Stone. - M.A.O as Celene Yang.
Known for being Pecorine in Princess Connect! Re:Dive and Shion in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. - Taishi Murata as Tomohide Jun.
An expert in the field, recognized for lending his voice to Shun Ibusaki in Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma. - Masuo Amada as Nichido Otani.
A veteran of the industry, known for voicing imposing authority figures in fantasy.
TROYCA’s recipe to dominate the summer season
Reviving a 1995 manga and adapting it to current standards is a risky move, but having Ei Aoki (the genius behind masterpieces like Fate/Zero and Aldnoah.Zero) in the director’s chair is practically a guarantee. The team is so obsessed with details that they hired exclusive animation culinary and “food science” supervisors to make every knife cut look ridiculously epic. Add to that the soundtrack by Tomoki Kikuya, the same composer who got us rocking in Bocchi the Rock!, and we have a heavy contender for the summer season.

Synopsis of Iron Wok Jan
Jan Akiyama is a brilliant but incredibly arrogant young chef working at a top-tier restaurant. His ultimate rival is Kiriko Gobancho, a master chef and the granddaughter of the owner. While Kiriko fiercely defends the philosophy that food must be prepared with love and always thinking of the customer, Jan operates under a much darker belief: cooking is pure competition and recipes are weapons designed to crush enemies. This ideological clash will unleash the most intense, technical, and ruthless culinary battles ever seen in a dining hall.
Will you give this chef war a chance, or are you one of those who prefer anime food to be pure relaxation?
