Gotcha Gotcha Games has recently unveiled RPG Maker U2U, a cutting-edge Unity-based engine set to become the next installment in the RPG Maker series, complete with HD-2D graphics support. The name “U2U” carries multiple interpretations, one being “up to you,” which underscores the developers’ commitment to offering creators unparalleled customization options for their projects.
One of the standout features of RPG Maker U2U is the Perspective 2D (P2D) visual technique, which overlays a 3D depth sensation onto 2D maps and includes dynamic visual effects like advanced lighting. Despite its sophisticated capabilities, the engine maintains a fixed camera angle similar to traditional RPG Maker games, ensuring creators and players can concentrate on development and gameplay without distraction.
RPG Maker U2U includes a built-in P2D Map Editor that simplifies map creation through an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. Developers can either utilize pre-made objects to expedite the process or construct custom objects from basic block materials for greater flexibility.
Existing RPG Maker creators can also import their official materials and 2D assets from previous titles and render them in HD-2D style. Additionally, U2U comes packed with over 100 pre-designed P2D maps to further streamline development.
