Qureate, a Japanese studio known for creating suggestive yet humorous games, is bringing unique titles like Fantasista Asuka to the forefront. In this upcoming soccer game, players’ jerseys mysteriously vanish when they execute moves with excessive aura. Despite tightening regulations that complicate the release of such content on mainstream platforms, Qureate has managed to distribute its games across various consoles, though not without encountering peculiar demands from platform holders.

A notable example is the 2024 Switch version of Qureate’s popular hostess club dating sim, Bunny Garden. The developers had to replace a character’s facial lotion with a green-colored alternative to avoid any unintended suggestive implications. Similarly, a scene featuring a fully clothed character spilling milk had to be altered so the liquid became invisible.

Further shedding light on these challenges, Qureate’s CEO and game producer Yuji Usuda recently spoke with Game*Spark about navigating the ever-evolving landscape of game regulations. He explained that the studio’s games predominantly feature large-breasted characters because portraying adult women with smaller chests is now considered “highly risky.” Even though the characters in Bunny Garden are clearly adults, Usuda noted that adding a flat-chested character could lead to interpretations of child-like features.

“Fans often ask why our games only have busty characters, but there are limitations we can’t ignore,” Usuda said. “We’d love to diversify our cast, but introducing risky elements could result in a game ban, making all efforts pointless.”

Despite these hurdles, Qureate remains optimistic. While adapting each game version adds to the workload, Usuda expressed relief that platform providers offer guidance rather than outright rejection. “We’re grateful that platforms work with us to make necessary adjustments, allowing our games to reach audiences,” he added.

The sequel to Bunny Garden, Bunny Garden 2, is now available on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch.
