On June 2, Bandai Namco’s action RPG Scarlet Nexus was revealed to have exceeded 2 million in cumulative sales. Coincidentally, this milestone coincided with game director Kenji Anabuki’s 2,000th day of promoting the title on his X profile.
Launched in 2021, Scarlet Nexus follows a band of psionics (individuals with extrasensory abilities) in their battle to safeguard humanity from the Others, an extradimensional entity that consumes minds. The game required approximately a year to reach one million copies, largely thanks to its availability on Xbox and PC Game Pass. Achieving two million units proved to be a more drawn-out process.

As we announced at The Game Awards, Scarlet Nexus is currently being developed in full swing, and set for release in Summer 2021! To celebrate the announcement of the release window, I’ll be sharing a screenshot every day from today until the official date!
Anabuki began sharing content about Scarlet Nexus on December 11, 2020 – well over half a year prior to the game’s release. His initial commitment was to post a daily game image before the official launch, but he later announced he would extend this to 200 days by June 28, 2020. By June 30, he decided to “keep going a bit longer” despite challenges. Evidently, “a bit longer” took on new meaning, as he continues posting five years and 2,000 entries later.
Anabuki’s updates feature a blend of official artwork and gameplay screenshots, some captured via the game’s Photo Mode. Given that certain posts include multiple images, the total count of visuals shared likely surpasses 2,000.
For his 2,000th post, Anabuki expressed gratitude to Scarlet Nexus fans, particularly those who engaged with his updates. His aspiration for a sequel dates back to September 6, 2023, when he made his 1,000th post. He remains committed to this vision and looks forward to continued fan support for the franchise.
Additionally, Anabuki is known for his deep admiration of his creations. The developer, who donned full character cosplay three times during the Tokyo marathon (as Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall from Scarlet Nexus, plus Luke fon Fabre from the Tales of Series), believes developers should openly showcase their passion for their work. He sees this as a meaningful way to show appreciation to players and fans of the characters.
