Shift Up has officially unveiled Stellar Blade: BLOOD RAIN, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2024 hit Stellar Blade. The gameโs newly released reveal trailer offers a glimpse into a dystopian cyberpunk world and introduces a fresh protagonist named Evie, surprising fans with her unexpected arrival.
Stellar Blade director and Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim recently shared insights with Famitsu, explaining that Evie is a member of a special forces unit tasked with hunting down those responsible for a massive terrorist attack in the city. The โCDDPโ logo on her back is a key part of her identity, though Kim kept its meaning under wraps to avoid spoilers. Additionally, Evie shares a mysterious connection with the first gameโs protagonist, Eve, but the specifics of their relationship remain undisclosed for now.
Kim emphasized Shift Upโs ambition to elevate the appeal of Evie beyond mere aesthetics, aiming for a deeper player connection. โI certainly appreciate Eveโs appearance, but with Evie, our focus is on creating a character that players can truly love,โ he stated.

To achieve this, Shift Up is drawing on lessons from Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, its live-service RPG, observing how players form emotional bonds with characters. NIKKE, which recently marked its 3.5-year anniversary, thrives on character-driven storytelling that fosters long-term engagement. This approach aligns with Shift Upโs vision for Evie, suggesting a more nuanced protagonist than Eve.
While the gameโs striking designsๆ ็ play a role, NIKKEโs success stems largely from its storytelling and character development, encouraging deeper player investment than typical harem games. If Shift Up applies this to Evie, Stellar Blade: BLOOD RAIN could deliver a protagonist with greater depth than its predecessor, which Kim has acknowledged as lacking in narrative.
Stellar Blade: BLOOD RAIN is still in early development, with no firm release date or platform details yet confirmed, though a multiplatform release is expected.
