Bandai Namco Filmworks has revealed a fresh anime collaboration between its animation division, Sunrise, and the studio Shaft. A dedicated X account, named “Sunrise × Shaft New Anime,” has been established, accompanied by a teaser trailer and a five-day countdown to its unveiling.
Sunrise, celebrated for its contributions to the Gundam franchise, has helmed the majority of its anime series, films, and OVAs. Beyond Gundam, the studio has crafted enduring hits like Cowboy Bebop, Mashin Hero Wataru, and Code Geass. Additionally, Sunrise has brought anime adaptations of Inuyasha and City Hunter to life.
Shaft, on the other hand, is the creative force behind anime versions of Nisekoi, Hidamari Sketch, and the Monogatari series. The studio also partnered with Magica Quartet to produce the critically lauded Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Information regarding this new project remains limited. The teaser trailer offers glimpses of two striking images: one depicting a figure holding a knife, and another showing a crossed-out individual moving through a crowd under a neon-lit backdrop. The official X account’s profile image, meanwhile, features a red spider lily, a flower that carries connotations of death in Japanese culture, among other interpretations.
Further details about the collaboration are set to be disclosed on Tuesday, June 23, at 12:30 A.M. JST.
