With the much-anticipated arrival of Genshin Impact’s Snezhnaya region on the horizon, HoYoVerse has recently unveiled the Transcendence Trailer “Sudden Snow,” introducing several new characters set to debut in the game. This marks the first instance where players have been able to catch a glimpse of the current Cryo Archon and ruler of Snezhnaya.
Known as Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya, the ice empress has caused quite a buzz among Genshin fans now that she has finally made her appearance, as clues regarding her presence and role in the storyline have been subtly woven into the game’s narrative since its inception.
It seems that due to the length of her full name, the Japanese Genshin community has already begun searching for a suitable nickname. In Japan, Genshin characters are typically addressed by their first names, which is why “Anastasya” has become the most common way to refer to her, followed by the shortened version “Ana.”
Some individuals have even started calling her “Snezhnaya,” though this could lead to confusion with the actual region in Teyvat. Others opt for “Feodorovna,” or more unconventional abbreviations such as “Nasu” (derived from A”nasu”tasia).
Contributing to the quest for a “unified” nickname for the Cryo Archon, a few players humorously abbreviated her name as ー・ー・ー, which has surprisingly gained popularity due to its sheer oddity, even from a Japanese perspective.
To understand the origin of this nickname, one must examine the katakana spelling of Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya’s name: アナスターシャ・フョードロヴナ・スネージナヤ. The “nickname” strips away all the katakana, leaving only the three characters resembling a horizontal line (used to denote long vowels) and the two middle dots (used for separating foreign names or words in katakana), resulting in ー・ー・ー. Since it lacks any actual sounds or syllables (as represented by the katakana), the nickname is essentially unpronounceable.
Curiously, because this nickname resembles morse code, some fans have begun referring to Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya simply as “sa,” which is the pronunciation of the sequence ー・ー・ー in Japanese morse code.
While this is undoubtedly a creation of fans seeking amusement during the wait for more Snezhnaya content from HoYoVerse, it remains to be seen whether the community will fully adopt the ー・ー・ー nickname and if it will endure over time.
