The Japanese animation industry continues to explore web reading platforms for its next fantasy franchise. The production committee of Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures has approved the animated adaptation of Heir to a Monstermancer (known in its original language as Mamono Tsukai no Musume). The official announcement came with a first promotional image introducing this peculiar main duo, hinting at a dynamic full of friction and survival battles.

For this project, project No.9 will handle the adaptation. Chihiro Kumano will direct, aiming to give the story smooth narrative flow. Satoru Sugizawa will oversee the scripts, while Akane Kasasagi will adapt the original character designs by illustrator Shirabii for animation. A notable detail is that the voice actors will reprise their roles from the audio drama released in early 2024.

Written by Damu Amato, the story has a long online history. It began publication in 2016 on Shosetsuka ni Naro, gaining traction until 2024. Its quality earned it the grand prize in the second Drecom Media Awards, leading to an immediate jump to printed light novels. The license is expanding, adding a manga illustrated by Yu Sato debuting this September and even a promotional webtoon funded by multiple companies.

The story follows Hakura, an experienced adventurer who nearly dies fighting a deadly hydra. In his moment of desperation, he is saved by Leen, a young girl with the rare ability to tame any monster regardless of threat level. Deeply in debt to her, Hakura decides to accompany her, forming a team where arguments are as common as battles.
