At Japan’s CEDEC 2026 developer conference, Konami delivered a lecture titled “The Art of Producing Silent Hill.” The session included insights from the development of recent titles such as Silent Hill f and the Silent Hill 2 remake. Series producer Motoi Okamoto also discussed his strategy for gaining fan support for the franchise’s major reboot, as noted by 4Gamer.

Okamoto explained that Silent Hill’s extended hiatus and past cancellations initially left players with low trust in the franchise’s revival. To rebuild this trust, he believed Konami needed to demonstrate a genuine commitment to the series once more.

This was the primary reason Okamoto aimed to avoid what he termed a “testing-the-waters-remake”—a strategy where a company releases a remake to measure interest before deciding whether to invest further in an intellectual property based on sales performance. Okamoto estimated that a remake alone would likely attract only about half of the original Silent Hill player base at best. He also pointed out that players can often sense when a company is merely gauging interest, and if the company appears to be taking a wait-and-see approach, the players will likely do the same. Conversely, he believes gamers will respond positively if they perceive a company’s intentions as sincere.

As a result, Okamoto’s team not only announced three games simultaneously but also secured internal approval for all of them—including the new movie—when requesting the budget for Silent Hill 2’s remake.

Anticipating skepticism and reactions such as, “I bet it’s just a remake anyways,” Okamoto aimed to positively subvert the playerbase’s expectations by introducing two entirely new entries and a departure from the franchise’s typical setting. He emphasized that emotionally engaging fans played a key role in generating interest in the project.

On a related note, the producer mentioned last December that his goal is to deliver at least one new Silent Hill game annually. The series’ next release is Silent Hill: Townfall, scheduled for September 24, and given these statements, there may be additional projects in development.
