Nitroplus has revealed that Gen Urobuchi’s initial visual novel, Phantom of Inferno, will arrive on Windows (Steam) on September 4. The forthcoming edition, named “Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE,” includes the same content from the 2013 reimagining for the Xbox 360 and PC, incorporating aspects from the 2009 animated series Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom.

Initially launched in 2000 for Japanese PC enthusiasts, Phantom of Inferno is a neo-noir visual novel that centers on a young Japanese traveler in the United States who bears witness to an assassination carried out by the enigmatic group known as Inferno. Following his abduction and the erasure of his memories via drugs and hypnotherapy, the youth is bestowed with the moniker “Zwei” and groomed to become an assassin. Alongside the organization’s most lethal operative, Phantom, Zwei masters the craft of killing while uncovering the secrets of Inferno and its hidden motives.

Nitroplus (operating under its Nitro Origin label) first disclosed intentions to launch the Steam iteration of Phantom of Inferno in an X update on December 31, 2025. The announcement also hinted at plans to bring additional titles to Steam in the same message. With one of those commitments now on the horizon, admirers of the studio’s creations have plenty to anticipate.

Phantom PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE is scheduled to hit Windows (Steam) on September 4. The game will accommodate three languages: Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese. All voice performances will be exclusively in Japanese.
