Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten asks for zero spoilers

The Madoka Magica committee asked not to publish spoilers of Walpurgis no Kaiten until September.

Keeping a secret on the internet is almost impossible, but when it comes to one of the most anticipated twists of the decade, caution is mandatory. With the upcoming theatrical release of the film Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten on August 28, the production team issued an official statement asking the community to completely refrain from posting spoilers on social media and video platforms until midnight on September 12, so that everyone can enjoy the plot’s surprises blind.

This installment serves as the direct sequel to the acclaimed 2013 film, Rebellion, continuing right where Homura Akemi rewrote reality itself to keep Madoka Kaname by her side. What appears to be a peaceful life in Mitakihara city is actually a highly fragile and altered space. As rumors circulate about a mysterious “lizard phone” capable of granting wishes and girls without soul gems hunt the magical beasts that replaced witches, an unknown force emerges to destroy Homura’s false paradise. The arrival of two new magical girls seeking the Cycle Law will force the story to return to the very origins of the entity known as Walpurgisnacht.

The return of the legendary Studio Shaft team

To the relief of the most demanding fans, the production of this jewel film has reunited the original creative team that turned the franchise into a cult phenomenon. General direction is handled by Akiyuki Shinbo alongside director Yukihiro Miyamoto at Studio Shaft, backed by scripts from Gen Urobuchi and iconic character designs by Ume Aoki. The musical score will be enhanced by master Yuki Kajiura, who composed the main theme “Kanata” under her FictionJunction project, promising an atmosphere as chilling as her best years.

Voice cast

  • Aoi Yuki as Madoka Kaname.
  • Chiwa Saito as Homura Akemi.
  • Kaori Mizuhashi as Mami Tomoe.
  • Eri Kitamura as Sayaka Miki.
  • Ai Nonaka as Kyoko Sakura.
  • Kana Asumi as Nagisa Momoe.
  • Emiri Kato as Kyubey.
  • Shion Wakayama as Shichoka.
  • Tomoyo Kurosawa as Selma Therese.

Knowing that Gen Urobuchi is a master of psychological trauma and dark, unexpected twists, do you think the community will respect the zero-spoilers truce for two weeks, or will the internet be filled with leaks from the first day of screening?
