The author of Gamers! returns to television with a chaotic unrequited love comedy.
27 August 2026
Unrequited love can be painful, but when it becomes a chain of rejections and misunderstandings, the result is one of the most absurd comedies in the industry. The manga written by Sekina Aoi and illustrated byRyo Tsuzura, My Crush’s Crush (Boku no Suki na Hito ga Suki na Hito) has officially confirmed it will get its own animated adaptation for television. Tsuzura accompanied the news with their own illustration to mark the occasion.

The story begins with Sora Akizuki, a high school student who gathers all his courage to confess to the girl he likes, Miya Fuwa, only to be rejected on the spot. The reason is simple: she is completely in love with Asahi Suzukaze, the charismatic president of the quirky Clinical Trial Practice Club. Determined to understand what that person has that he doesn’t, Sora decides to join the club to investigate closely, only to discover an even more chaotic truth: Asahi doesn’t return Miya’s feelings because he is in love with someone else. From this tangled web, the plot becomes an endless loop of unrequited feelings.
The writer of the work, Sekina Aoi, admitted to being deeply surprised and grateful to see his characters come to life on screen. Aoi commented that after reviewing the scripts, materials, and early voice recordings, he was impressed with the huge effort of the production team to faithfully adapt even the most ridiculous and absurd dialogues from the original material.
About My Crush’s Crush
Written by Sekina Aoi, a brilliant mind well-known in the community for creating the popular light novelGamers! and Student Council’s Discretion (both with successful anime adaptations), the work features illustrations by Ryo Tsuzura. The original manga began its publication in November 2022 and has maintained a steady pace in Japan, reaching the release of its seventh compiled volume. With this track record of absurd comedies under his belt, expectations for this romantic mess in animated form are sky-high.
Given the author’s history of creating romantic entanglements full of absurd misunderstandings, do you think this anime will become one of the funniest romantic comedies of the year or do you prefer more traditional romances?
