Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) has recently updated its financial projections for the fiscal year concluding March 2027, forecasting a notable surge in revenue and a return to profit.

After a challenging period, the company anticipates a 50.1% increase in net sales year-over-year, alongside operating profit of 715 million yen (a 141.4% year-over-year jump), ordinary profit of 906 million yen (101.7% year-over-year growth), and net profit of 718 million yen (116.8% year-over-year rise), as noted by GameBiz. This development prompted a substantial stock recovery on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on August 31, with shares briefly reaching their upper limit.

The impressive financial performance this year can be largely attributed to the strong sales of NIS’s recent release, Village in the Shade. The farming simulator debuted in Japan on July 30, achieving over 100,000 units in under five days, with physical copies selling out at numerous domestic retailers. By late August, the game had added another 50k units to its sales. Further growth is expected once the global version of Village in the Shade launches on October 27.

This success suggests that NIS’s approach to intellectual property is beginning to yield results. The company’s significant losses in 2025 were linked to its decision to move away from contract work for other developers in favor of original game development. NIS indicated that it had either discontinued or reduced some co-development projects to focus on creating new IP content. With several new games released in the past two years and additional titles scheduled for release by the end of 2026—including GOBBLE in September and Prinny Party: Going Overboard! in December—it will be intriguing to observe how this increased focus on original projects impacts the company’s overall success.
