Wright Flyer Studios is set to launch the command-based time-travel JRPG Another Eden Begins on September 17, available on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. This forthcoming game serves as a complete rebuild of “Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space,” a live-service mobile RPG that has been successfully operating since 2017.
Reimagined from the ground up with a revamped gameplay loop and devoid of gacha mechanics, the new Another Eden Begins is designed as a self-contained, one-time-purchase title. It aims to expand the Another Eden franchise into the console RPG market while ensuring the game remains accessible regardless of future live-service operations.
Notably, Another Eden Begins is not the sole prominent Japanese mobile RPG undergoing such a transformation. Recent examples include Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent being reimagined as Octopath Traveler 0, and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius being reborn as the upcoming Final Fantasy Resonance.
In a discussion with industry sources, producer Shinnosuke Hirasawa, who oversees both the original Another Eden and the new Another Eden Begins, stated he was unsurprised by other studios pursuing similar endeavors. The announcement of Octopath Traveler 0 coincided with Wright Flyer Studios’ development of Another Eden Begins, and Hirasawa felt it was logical that developers were reaching the same conclusion.
“Live-service games inherently face the issue of becoming unplayable once services are discontinued. Additionally, long-running games often see development scales diminish over time,” Hirasawa explains, noting that current market conditions have led to the genre hitting a plateau.
Under these circumstances, Hirasawa’s response to initiatives like Octopath Traveler 0 and FF Resonance was, “Yes, let’s see more of this!” He further elaborates:
“I believe creators take pride in their work, and it’s wonderful when live-service titles are released in a format that allows them to endure and continue receiving recognition. This is beneficial for the gaming medium as a whole, so I hope to see more such releases in the future.”
Another Eden Begins will be available on September 17 for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A demo is accessible on both platforms.
