Kagura Games has revealed that the Steam version of Sengoku Rance is scheduled to launch on October 2, as part of the US publisher’s initiative to bring the franchise to the platform. The game supports English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, and marks the first of several Rance titles planned for Steam. Ports of Rance 01 + 02, Rance 03, Rance IV, Rance IX, Rance X, and Rance Quest Magnum are expected to follow at later dates.
As one of developer AliceSoft’s top-selling titles and a beloved favorite among fans, Sengoku Rance was initially released exclusively in Japan in 2006 and serves as the seventh installment in the long-running Rance series of eroge RPGs. Set during medieval Japan’s Sengoku (Warring States) period, players assume control of Rance as he unites the nation by leading the renowned Oda clan (entrusted to him by ailing Oda Nobunaga). Given its eroge nature, Rance’s secondary objective involves pursuing romantic encounters with numerous beautiful Japanese women.
Sengoku Rance’s gameplay centers on managing armies, historical heroes, resources, and territories, all of which influence the turn-based combat. The narrative unfolds between battles, with the overall direction shifting based on player choices and strategies. Featuring multiple branching paths and endings tied to different clans and battle outcomes, the game encourages replayability to explore all content. Some progress from prior playthroughs can be carried over, reducing repetition in subsequent runs.
It’s important to note that while the Steam version of Sengoku Rance is not classified as an adult game (the Steam page only cautions for “non-explicit sexual content”), publisher Kagura Games typically provides off-platform patches to restore any explicit content for players who desire it.
