The Mahoutsukai no Yoru movie reveals its final trailer and main theme
supercell and Nagi Yanagi perform the movie’s theme, set to premiere in November.
Type-Moon’s universe is set to make a big impact in cinemas with one of the industry’s most acclaimed studios. The official animated adaptation page for Mahoutsukai no Yoru (Witch on the Holy Night) has unveiled the final trailer, confirming its official release date in Japan for November 20, along with details that will excite all fans.
The big surprise in this new preview is its music. The creative group supercell returns to the franchise with a completely new theme titled Yoru to Ao (Night and Blue), composed and arranged by ryo. The most striking part of this collaboration is the vocal participation of Nagi Yanagi, who records a new song with supercell after nearly fifteen years away, bringing back the nostalgia that captivated players of the original title.
The cinematic project is handled by the acclaimed studio ufotable, ensuring technical quality and dazzling combat sequences. The direction is by Masashi Takeuchi with supervision from Hikaru Kondo as general director, while character design is by Moe Tsuzuki. The musical composition was entrusted to Hideyuki Fukasawa, promising an atmosphere befitting the original literary work.
The voice cast retains the figures who immortalized the characters in the modern game versions. The renowned actress Haruka Tomatsu voices Aoko Aozaki, while Kana Hanazawa brings to life the enigmatic Alice Kuonji and Yusuke Kobayashi portrays the young Soujyuro Sizuki. Additionally, to celebrate the cinema release, the mobile version of the original visual novel will be available on the same November 20.

Mahoutsukai no Yoru is a story originally conceived by Kinoko Nasu and illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi in the mid-1990s, years before the founding of the famous Type-Moon label. Although it initially started as a shared book among friends, the work transitioned to a visual novel format in April 2012 with art by Hirokazu Koyama, occupying a fundamental place in the shared universe of the author’s works by addressing the origins of the Aozaki sisters.
Set in the late 1980s, the plot follows Aoko Aozaki, a high school student who overnight becomes the heir to her family’s magical lineage. Despite her lack of interest in arcane arts, Aoko begins training under the tutelage of Alice Kuonji, a young witch living in a solitary mansion on a hilltop. As she tries to balance her duties as student council president and her new magical life, the girl must deal with the arrival of an exchange student ignorant of the modern world and the dark ambitions of her older sister, Toko Aozaki.
