The isekai Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles confirms its third season

Author Yuri Kitayama celebrated the third season announcement following the sequel’s success.

Rio’s adventures in that complex world filled with magic and past memories are far from over. During a special broadcast organized by the work’s publishing label, the Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles franchise officially announced the production of its third season, ensuring the continuity of one of the most beloved reincarnation stories by fans of the genre.

The announcement was made through a commemorative video and promotional image that sparked conversation among fans. While the exact release date and production team details have not yet been revealed, the confirmation guarantees that the animated adaptation will continue covering the most intense stages of the light novels.

Original author Yuri Kitayama shared a special message to celebrate the news, thanking the constant support of the audience both in Japan and abroad. Kitayama noted that while the first season focused on Rio’s vow of revenge and the second season put him face-to-face with the person he sought, this third installment will bring much more complex dynamics. Now with his mentor Celia and his childhood friend Miharu by his side, the story will delve into the contrast between the happiness of his current life and the memories of a past he can no longer reclaim.

This news comes after the journey began with the first season in July 2021 and the broadcast of the second season in October 2024. Throughout its run, the production was directed by Hiroshi Kubo and supervised by Osamu Yamasaki, maintaining character designs by Kyoko Yufu and music by Yasuyuki Yamazaki—elements expected to maintain the same quality for this eagerly awaited continuation.

Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles is a fantasy light novel series written by Yuri Kitayama and illustrated by Riv. The story began its digital publication on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in February 2014, later being published in print format by Hobby Japan under the HJ Bunko label starting in 2015, and also features a popular manga adaptation drawn by Futago Minaduki.

The plot follows Rio, an orphaned and ruthless boy who survives in the slums of a fantasy kingdom. At age seven, the boy discovers he is the reincarnation of Haruto Amakawa, a Japanese university student who tragically died after losing his childhood love. As he regains his memories, Rio also awakens immense magical power, which he uses to rescue the kidnapped princess of the kingdom, earning a scholarship to attend the prestigious noble academy, where he must deal with social discrimination and political intrigue.

What expectations do you have for the third season and Rio’s new emotional dilemmas?
