Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio launched Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered on October 1. This new release resurrects one of the franchise’s standout installments (including its Xtreme Legends expansion) featuring refreshed visuals, novel gameplay elements, additional scenarios, and upcoming online support.

In a conversation with 4Gamer to mark the remaster’s debut, Omega Force head and Dynasty Warriors series producer Tomohiko Sho discussed the potential for other titles to receive modern revamps down the line. Sho noted that if the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster proves successful, it would undoubtedly boost the likelihood of additional series entries—especially those unavailable on Steam—being remastered.

Regarding his personal stance, Sho expressed reluctance to undertake more remasters. “It essentially means rebuilding everything from scratch, and even while working on this project, I sometimes questioned why I was recreating something I already created,” he admitted.

Sho has been part of the Dynasty Warriors franchise since 2002’s Dynasty Warriors 2, serving as a game designer, director, and producer. Now in his fifties, he reflects on how many more games he can realistically create before retirement. As a result, he gravitates toward fresh projects—be they original titles or sequels. Nevertheless, he acknowledges fans’ desire to see classic games revived and aims to address these requests, which is why he’s contemplating delegating leadership for future potential remasters.

Sho revealed that developing the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster spanned years and presented significant challenges, likely because the project borders on being a full remake. The visuals and character models were rebuilt using UE5, the combat system expanded with new defensive features and a Weapon Synthesis mechanic, the sub-officer system was imported from newer Warrior games, and developers announced plans to introduce online support for two-player modes post-launch. Given this scope, it’s understandable why Sho is apprehensive about his remaining career being dominated by remastering his earlier work.

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered is now available on PC (Steam), PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X❘S.
