Renowned game director and writer Kotaro Uchikoshi officially unveiled the formation of his new studio, Crash Keys, on October 15. The venture is set to focus on original game development, leveraging Uchikoshi’s distinctive creative style and the wealth of experience gathered throughout his professional journey. Specific details about the studio’s upcoming projects are expected to be shared in due course.
Uchikoshi began his career at developer KID, contributing to notable titles such as Ever17: The Out of Infinity and the Memories Off series. In 2007, he joined Spike Chunsoft, where he crafted some of his most acclaimed works, including the Zero Escape and AI: The Somnium Files franchises. After departing Spike Chunsoft, he co-founded Too Kyo Games alongside Kazutaka Kodaka, the mind behind Danganronpa, and played a role in projects like The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. Uchikoshi has confirmed (via X) that he remains connected to Too Kyo Games while pursuing his independent endeavors, noting a strong working relationship with the studio.

At Crash Keys, Uchikoshi aims to channel his expertise into crafting original games that break away from traditional industry norms. According to a press release, the studio is actively seeking investment partners to support its creative ambitions and solidify its business structure. Crash Keys was officially launched in March 2025, with Uchikoshi taking on the role of CEO.
The studio has also introduced its official tagline and website. Uchikoshi shared on X that his initial intention was to announce Crash Keys alongside a new game reveal in 2027. However, the unexpected cancellation of a project he had worked on for over a year and a half prompted him to disclose the studio’s formation ahead of schedule. Uchikoshi is now actively looking for collaboration opportunities and funding to ensure the studio remains viable.
