Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio launched Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered on October 1. This new release revisits one of the franchise’s standout titles, including its Xtreme Legends expansion, featuring refreshed visuals, innovative gameplay elements, additional scenarios, and forthcoming online support.
During a conversation with 4Gamer to mark the remaster’s debut, Omega Force head and Dynasty Warriors producer Tomohiko Sho explored the potential for more series entries to receive modern updates. Sho indicated that a strong reception to the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster could pave the way for additional remasters, especially for games currently unavailable on Steam.
However, regarding his personal dedication to remakes, Sho expressed hesitation. “It essentially involves reconstructing the entire game, and even while working on this project, I sometimes questioned why I was re-creating something I already developed,” he noted.

Sho has been part of the Dynasty Warriors franchise since 2002’s Dynasty Warriors 2, serving as a designer, director, and producer. Now in his fifties, he reflects on how many more games he can create before retiring. This has led him to prefer working on new ventures, whether original titles or sequels. Nonetheless, he acknowledges fans’ desire to see classic games revived and aims to address these requests, considering delegating future projects to others.
Sho revealed that developing the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster was a lengthy and challenging process, partly because the game is nearly a full remake. The visuals and character models were rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, the combat system was enhanced with new defensive mechanics and a Weapon Synthesis feature, the sub-officer system was introduced from newer Warrior games, and developers plan to add online support for two-player modes post-launch. Given this scope, it’s understandable why Sho is concerned about dedicating his remaining career to remastering his past work.
Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered is now available on PC (Steam), PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X❘S.
