During your journey through the Cradle in Pragmata, you’ll eventually encounter REMs (Read Earth Memories) – blue holographic collectibles that can be handed over to Diana at the Shelter to reconstruct Earth-based items. The initial REM you gather depicts a globe, which Diana promptly rotates once you’ve fixed it. While this action might seem trivial to players outside Japan, a sharp-eyed local X user on the platform observed that Diana’s charming animation could be a subtle homage to the Japanese comedian Gorgeous (ゴー☆ジャス), prompting other Japanese players to notice the nod as well.
Post translation:
It’s so over-the-top “Gorgeous” that it’s funny, but the fact that it’s aimed at a Japanese audience, and that people overseas won’t really get it is also hilarious lol
Gorgeous, known for his space pirate costumes, has a well-known routine where he’s stranded on a snowy mountain with a companion. Just as the companion is about to freeze and fall asleep, Gorgeous repeatedly yells “mada tasukaru” (roughly meaning “we can still make it”) before pulling out a globe (which he often carries), shouting “Madagascar” and boldly pointing at the country to highlight the wordplay involved.
Although Diana doesn’t specifically mention Madagascar in Pragmata (she names Venezuela, Malaysia, and Denmark instead), the act of quickly spinning the globe and pointing to roughly where Madagascar would be is clearly inspired by Gorgeous’s routine. Diana’s comically resolute expression right after pointing at the globe suggests there’s more to this moment than players might initially realize.
Post translation:
The globe has arrived! Spin it round and round. Then point to Madagascar with your finger. I really want everyone to try Pragmata and experience it for themselves!
It appears Gorgeous himself is aware of the reference and has been playing Pragmata since its release, encouraging others to do the same. Since the globe is nearly impossible to miss (acquiring it is part of the main story), he hopes everyone will enjoy asking Diana to spin the globe themselves.
Pragmata is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), with a Nintendo Switch 2 version launching on April 24.
