Stories of romance between girls that touch the heart have a special charm, and when paired with a sensitive narrative and a star-studded cast, the result promises to be a true wonder. The anime adaptation of the acclaimed yuri manga Amayo no Tsuki (The Moon on a Rainy Night) has officially unveiled its first trailer, confirming the main voice cast and setting its premiere for 2027.

The first video trailer reveals that actress Iori Saeki will voice Saki Kindaichi, while the renowned Sora Amamiya will portray Kanon Oikawa. The production is handled by studio CompTown, with Tomoe Makino directing. Shogo Yasukawa oversees script supervision and writing, while Ayumi Nishibata designs the characters, and the soundtrack is composed by the band jizue.

The story introduces Saki, a young girl rushing to her piano class on a rainy night when she accidentally collides with a beautiful girl with long hair, causing her sheet music to fall. Although Saki apologizes immediately, the girl returns the papers and silently leaves. The next morning, on her first day of high school, Saki discovers that the same girl sits right next to her. There, she learns that her name is Kanon and that she is hearing-impaired, which keeps her distant from others. However, a small act of kindness from Saki begins to break down these barriers, giving way to a very special feeling.

The creative team for this production includes assistant directors Seung Deok Kim and Tsutomu Tomoyuki, art direction by Mai Ichioka, photography direction by Atsushi Sato, sound direction by Nobuyuki Abe, and animation production led by Masao Yamamura.

Amayo no Tsuki is a yuri manga written and illustrated by Kuzushiro. The series began its digital serialization on Kodansha’s Comic Days website in June 2021, maintaining continuous publication and accumulating twelve compiled volumes in the Japanese market.

The author has a notable career in the medium, also creating works like Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san, which received its own 13-episode animated adaptation in 2014, and Egao no Taenai Shokuba Desu, a series that aired on television in October 2025. With this new project, Kuzushiro once again captivates with a story focused on empathy, personal growth, and overcoming communication barriers.
