Sanrio, the creative force behind beloved character franchises including Hello Kitty, Kuromi, and Cinamoroll, revealed the establishment of its new gaming division, Sanrio Games, on April 21. The company’s inaugural release, Sanrio Party Land, is slated for a global debut on Nintendo Switch platforms in the autumn of 2026.
This upcoming game is being positioned as a party-style experience set within a town teeming with Sanrio characters. Players will craft their own custom avatars and engage in minigames and board game challenges alongside iconic Sanrio personalities. In addition to Sanrio Party Land, the Sanrio Games division has several other projects in various stages of development. A yet-untitled console game is scheduled for release during the current fiscal year (April 2026 to March 2027), while the company’s long-term roadmap includes a commitment to deliver 10 titles by March 2029. Further details regarding each game, including expanded information about Sanrio Party Land’s gameplay mechanics and specific release windows, will be shared progressively.

This strategic gaming initiative follows the international acclaim of Sanrio’s recent animated projects, including the 2025 Netflix premiere of My Melody & Kuromi and the forthcoming Hollywood-produced Hello Kitty film set for global distribution in 2028. It appears that Sanrio is now setting its sights on the worldwide video game industry as the next frontier for its extensive portfolio of popular intellectual properties.
