If someone had told you a couple of years ago that one of Japan’s most powerful voices would end up performing one of the greatest Spanish songs of defiance in history, you probably wouldn’t have believed it. But reality surpasses fiction, and the very own Ado surprised everyone by confirming she will record a full Spanish cover of La Gata Bajo La Lluvia for her upcoming covers album, set to hit the market on December 23rd.
The inclusion of this classic wasn’t random. The song, composed by Rafael Pérez-Botija and popularized in 1981 by legendary Spanish singer Rocío Dúrcal, was selected directly by fans through a global vote held earlier this year. For this new production, titled Ado no Utattemita Album Sono 2, the artist decided to expand the boundaries of her 2023 project, adding Western songs for the first time to her Vocaloid and J-pop catalog.
Here is the original version of the song:
The album promises a true variety of musical styles. Among the over ten confirmed tracks is the powerful song Kawaki wo Ameku by Minami, known for being the opening theme of the anime Domestic na Kanojo. This list also includes a cover of the heavy metal classic Enter Sandman by Metallica, a piece the singer had already performed live during her headlining appearance at the Summer Sonic festival earlier this year. The production will also feature songs like Unknown Mother-Goose by the late producer wowaka, Fairytale by buzzG, the 2014 song Mousou Shikkan Yami Girl by Moja in collaboration with Rerulili, and Kuchibashi ni Cherry by EGO-WRAPPIN’, a song with sentimental value for Ado as it was her audition piece for the record label before her official debut.
The album will be available in both a standard edition and a limited version that includes an acrylic stand and an exclusive sticker. The singer promises to reveal more surprises from the repertoire as we approach the Christmas Eve release date.

Ado is one of Japan’s most popular and mysterious modern singers. She began her musical journey at a young age as an utaite, a term for creators who perform Vocaloid song covers on digital platforms. Her massive breakthrough happened in 2020 with the release of her debut single Usseewa, a viral phenomenon that placed her at the top of music charts thanks to her impressive vocal range and raspy style. Since then, she has lent her voice to the soundtrack of the film One Piece Film Red portraying the character Uta, as well as performing themes for various internationally renowned animated productions.
How do you think Ado’s powerful voice will sound performing this Spanish classic?
