Following over a year away from social media, former FromSoftware developer Hytacka, who has declared that his life’s “main quest is to craft the world’s most engaging action RPG,” has resurfaced to reveal his latest endeavor, Overseeker. This upcoming action RPG features swift 3D melee combat, magical abilities, and parrying mechanics, revolving around siblings Noah and Ivy, alongside a mysterious tower that emerges after a meteor crash. Overseeker marks Hytacka’s second independent venture, following the less-than-successful Rise of Rebellion.
The new narrative trailer for Overseeker introduces the game’s world, portraying Noah and Ivy as assassins bound by a strict moral code. When Noah discovers that Ivy has killed one of their trusted allies, Keegan, tensions rise between the siblings. After a fierce confrontation, a meteor streaks across the sky, giving rise to a mysterious tower in the distance.
Several elements of the story trailer were crafted using generative AI, including the music (created with Suno), voice acting (produced with ElevenLabs), and the game’s logo concept (developed with ChatGPT). AI tools were also employed to aid in translation efforts. It remains unclear if and how extensively the actual game will utilize generative AI.
Overseeker is being developed by team Hytacka, with Hytacka overseeing game direction, design, and co-writing the script. Mitsunagi, who collaborated with Hytacka on Rise of Rebellion, handles programming. Yuri Seibu contributes to the story and co-writes the script, while also serving as a cinematic consultant.
Hytacka’s previous update before Overseeker’s announcement addressed the poor reception of Rise of Rebellion in 2025. Although the game earned some praise for its combat mechanics, many felt it was overly complex and lacking in other aspects. The developer himself admitted that Rise of Rebellion “failed” commercially and critically. Rise of Rebellion currently holds a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with 43% of 206 reviews being positive.
