If you thought your emotional stability had recovered after the bitter experience of the animated adaptation, we have news that will upset you again. The team behind Takopii no Genzai (Takopii no Genzai) has presented a new trailer and promotional image for its compilation film titled Takopii no Genzai -Arigatou, Mata Ashita-, confirming it will arrive in Japanese cinemas on November 27.

This feature film restructures the six episodes of the TV miniseries, adding completely new sequences to enrich the big-screen experience. The trailer features a preview of “Rabyu,” the main theme performed by artist Tele, who previously composed the anime’s ending music. The singer commented that he wrote this theme to give these girls a comforting message, imagining that the nightmare they are going through will one day become something they can smile about.

Accompanying the promotional video, an original illustration by character designer Keita Nagahara was revealed. The image shows Shizuka, Marina, and Azuma standing in a classroom after school without making eye contact, while Takopi gently leans on Shizuka’s shoulder. This composition is accompanied by the touching slogan “For you, who were always alone.” Director Shinya Iino thanked the warm reception the anime received, inviting all fans to experience this story with the impact of the big screen and superior sound.

A star-studded cast and top-tier creative team

For this cinematic version, the main voice actor cast reunites to bring the story’s complex protagonists to life. Actress Kurumi Mamiya plays the innocent and misunderstood Takopi, while Reina Ueda voices the suffering Shizuka Kuze. The cast is completed with Konomi Kohara as Marina and Anna Nagase as Azuma.

Technically, the production is again handled by studio ENISHIYA. Filmmaker Shinya Iino takes on the general direction and script supervision again, while Keita Nagahara is responsible for the character designs adapted for animation.

About Takopii no Genzai

Takopii no Genzai is a critically acclaimed drama and psychological mystery manga written and illustrated by Taizan 5. The manga began its digital publication on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform in December 2021, concluding in March 2022 and being compiled in two printed volumes. The story follows Takopi, an octopus-like alien who comes to Earth to spread happiness, but upon meeting Shizuka, an elementary school girl suffering constant bullying and abandonment, becomes entangled in a spiral of tragedy and poor decisions.

The printed work became a sales and critical phenomenon, being nominated for prestigious awards such as the Manga Taisho and Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2023. Its six-episode animated adaptation premiered in June 2025 and gained international recognition by winning the Jury Award for television series at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2026.
