As part of the Godzilla Theater initiative, celebrating 70 years of the iconic kaiju, Toho, Japan’s leading entertainment firm, revealed that four legendary films—Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.—will be showcased for a limited run at chosen Toho cinemas throughout Japan from May to August (source: AV Watch). Following the conclusion of the Millennium series, all 30 domestically-produced Godzilla films have been upgraded to 4K digital remasters.

Although 4K DCPs are utilized for the digital remasters, the actual resolutions for the Japanese screenings may differ based on each cinema’s technical specifications (Toho Cinemas Akaike, for example, will present its Godzilla films in 2K).

The Godzilla Theater offers a handpicked collection of timeless Godzilla movies, re-mastered for contemporary viewers. Despite launching in 2024, the year marking Godzilla’s 70th anniversary, the project’s success has ensured its continuation into 2026.
