STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT creator Mages has disclosed on the game’s official portal that owing to the “product’s characteristics,” it will not authorize any live streaming or uploading of commentary for the forthcoming title. Although console sharing options enabling in-game footage capture are permitted for private and personal use, disseminating the game to a broad audience is explicitly forbidden.

Such restrictions are frequently observed among Japanese developers, particularly within the visual novel sphere, where gameplay recordings can nearly replace the actual playing experience. Earlier Steins;Gate editions have also featured analogous regulations, with publishers rigorously upholding them.

In 2023, a 53-year-old Japanese internet content creator who shared a one-hour clip of Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace (containing its endings that were under a streaming prohibition) along with other protected material, encountered legal actions. He was detained and convicted of copyright violation, resulting in a suspended two-year prison term (deferred for five years) and a 1 million JPY fine (approximately $6,400 USD), as reported by Yomiuri Shimbun. The individual acknowledged posting the videos while aware of the legal consequences.

To mitigate future copyright violations and safeguard an unspoiled experience for players, Mages has implemented a comprehensive streaming prohibition for the upcoming Steins;Gate Re:Boot. Even though the narrative largely mirrors the 2009 original visual novel, the inclusion of a fresh ending is among the draws for players, complemented by enhancements like redone voiceovers and upgraded visuals.

Steins;Gate Re:Boot is slated for an August 20 launch on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
