Koei Tecmo Games revealed that it will cease operations for its free-to-play alchemy RPG Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator in Japan on November 25. In-App purchases, including the sale of Paid Lodestar Gems, will be halted starting August 27. This decision comes a year and a half after the international version of the game was discontinued in March 2025.
Atelier Resleriana launched in Japan on iOS and Android on September 23, 2023, with a Steam version and worldwide release following in early 2024. The title faced an uneven beginning due to controversy over its initial premium gacha mechanics. A bundle of 10 draws cost approximately 6000 yen (equivalent to about $40 USD at the time), which sparked player backlash β leading Koei Tecmo to adjust the pricing shortly after. Despite the rocky launch, the game earned positive feedback from fans, particularly for its extensive roster of characters (featuring several fan-favorite alchemists from previous entries) and its expansive narrative spanning over 30 chapters.
As stated in the βLetter from the Development Team,β Koei Tecmo ultimately opted to discontinue the game because βit would be challenging to continue offering a service that meets user expectations.β On a positive note, the 33rd chapter, which follows Resna and her allies as they reach the Continentβs End, has been added to the game. Additionally, a special anniversary website is set to launch on September 23, accompanied by a new story chapter not featured in the main game.
