The Japanese web manga sensation Chiikawa, which has captured global attention, is set to reach new heights with the announcement of an English dub for its anime adaptation. The official English channel, unveiled today, confirms that weekly episodes will debut on YouTube starting October 1.
The Chiikawa anime follows the adventures of Chiikawa and their pals as they navigate everyday scenarios, from dining and games to professional pursuits. Beneath its adorable facade, the series occasionally delves into darker themes and more mature content, offering a surprising twist.
In anticipation of the premiere, the official English channel has shared three YouTube Shorts giving fans a glimpse into the show. These clips highlight the dynamic trio of Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi. Additionally, the channel has posted the opening theme “Hitorigotsu” with English subtitles.
Though the series has already achieved international fame through merchandise, the anime was previously available only with Korean and Chinese dubs. This marks the first time an English dub will be offered alongside subtitles.
The film adaptation, Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island, hit Japanese theaters on July 24 and remains popular, screening for months. As of September 20, the movie has grossed approximately $99.7 million, making it Japan’s top-grossing film of 2026. There is currently no word on whether the English dub will lead to a Western release of the Chiikawa movie.
