The acclaimed mecha and political strategy franchise from Japanese animation isn’t slowing down for its 20th anniversary. To build excitement ahead of its two decades of history, the official project channel published the first promotional trailer for Code Geass Star Chaser Aspal (Code Geass Hoshi Oi no Aspal), the new animated series set to officially debut on screens in 2027.

The video preview focuses on building a mysterious atmosphere and confirms the creative team behind this production. The project is directed by Kazuya Nomura, a director with extensive experience having helmed works like Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie and the two seasons of Moriarty the Patriot. For scriptwriting and composition, Mado Nozaki is responsible, a recognized author of the novel Hello World and screenwriter of KADO – The Right Answer.

The visual aspect promises much with illustrator Rolua adapting character designs, while Agarmatha designs are handled by artist Yoshi. Additionally, talented Junbun Lin, who worked on background and conceptual effects for recent Mobile Suit Gundam projects, takes charge of art direction for backgrounds and special effects. Although the preview doesn’t delve deeply into plot details, it confirms this story will remain one of the main pillars in the franchise’s commemorative celebrations.

This new installment is part of an ambitious celebration for the project’s 20th anniversary, which includes a crossover manga with Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, a new stage musical adaptation, and special exhibitions touring several Japanese cities in the second half of 2026. The franchise continues expanding its universe following previous projects like Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture and the film Lelouch of the Re;surrection.

Code Geass is an iconic original anime series created by Sunrise in 2006, which revolutionized the mecha genre with its intriguing mix of mecha battles, political conspiracies, and high-level tactical combat. The story follows Lelouch vi Britannia, an exiled prince who gains the power of Geass, a mystical ability allowing him to give absolute commands to anyone, sparking a large-scale rebellion against the Sacred Empire of Britannia under the enigmatic identity of Zero.
