After the Nintendo Direct presentation unveiled that Deltarune Chapter 5 is set to launch on June 24, its creator, Toby Fox, shared a brief newsletter detailing what players can expect, along with updates on chapters 6 and 7 (yes, there’s a numerical joke in there).
Unlike the Deltarune Chapters 1-4 reveal video, which showcased numerous scenes from the upcoming chapters, Fox chose to withhold the most thrilling moments of Chapter 5 from its trailer. He did, however, note that Chapter 5 will adopt a more lighthearted tone, giving players “one more fun adventure” before the story plunges back into the ominous atmosphere hinted at by Chapter 4’s ending. This decision has left fans deeply worried about the events in Deltarune’s remaining two chapters.
Turning to Chapter 6, Fox reported that development is progressing smoothly, with cutscenes and NPC interactions well underway. All fundamental mechanics, such as themed climbing and puzzles, have been established, requiring only a few more rooms to fully implement them. Standard enemy and bullet combat is largely complete, and the final boss is nearly finished, needing only minor adjustments to its bullet patterns. Based on past Deltarune final bosses, players can anticipate Chapter 6’s climax to be a challenging bullet hell encounter.
Fox mentioned that Chapter 6 is considerably easier to produce than previous chapters, allowing development to move at a brisk pace. Consequently, he believes it’s possible that some team members could begin work on Deltarune’s seventh and ultimate chapter by year’s end.
Chapter 5 will be available on June 24 as a complimentary update for Deltarune, accessible on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, macOS and Windows (Steam), and PlayStation 4 and 5.
