Arranged marriage is already complicated, but proposing to the hitman sent to kill you takes romantic drama to a completely insane level. The animated adaptation of the acclaimed original manga by Oreko Tachibana, Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri), has officially confirmed its premiere on Japanese television for October 9th. The announcement came with a second promotional trailer, the reveal of new cast members, and the ending theme performed by TOOBOE.

The story takes place during the Meiji era, following Satoko Kirigaya, a noble and beautiful young woman who seems to have everything. However, she suffers from a serious illness that gives her very little time to live, so her only goal is to arrange a beneficial marriage that restores her family’s honor. Things get complicated when she becomes the target of Shinpei Goto, a mysterious and ruthless assassin. Desperate to save herself, Satoko takes a huge gamble by proposing to the very executioner, unaware that for Shinpei, the promise of “until death do us part” is something he takes terrifyingly seriously.

The series will be animated by the acclaimed studio david production, under the direction of Takahiro Kamei. The scripts will be supervised and written by Yuko Kakihara, while Yukiko Aikei will adapt the character designs and NOGRID will compose the soundtrack. Meanwhile, artist TOOBOE will perform the ending theme titled “Yumegokochi” (Trance). The manga began publication in January 2023 and has already accumulated twelve compiled volumes in the market, becoming one of the most discussed dark romance stories by the community.
