Virtual misunderstanding stories have just gained a new victory in the industry. Author Niichi officially confirmed that his popular original manga of romantic comedy, Genjitsu mo Tamani wa Usowotsuku (known in English as Sometimes Even Reality Is a Lie!), will get its own animated adaptation. Through a commemorative illustration, the creator thanked the unconditional support of readers, confirming this unique project will air on Japanese television in 2027.

The premise of this work is full of absurd entanglements promising many laughs. The story follows Kaoru Terasaki, an avid gamer who usually uses female avatars online. Things get complicated when he decides to meet his internet best friend in person, only to find out she’s actually an introverted girl named Nanami Osaka. The real problem arises when Nanami admits she lied to her overprotective father about bringing a friend home, as he doesn’t allow any boys near her. With no escape, Kaoru must dress as a woman to spend time with her without causing a family crisis.

This announcement comes at a bittersweet and nostalgic time for the franchise. What started in 2018 as a modest doujinshi published online by the author gained attention from publisher Kadokawa, who began releasing it physically from 2020. Interestingly, this anime confirmation serves as a grand farewell for the print version, as the manga will conclude with its ninth and final volume set for release on September 16.
