Girls Band Cry Goes on Tour: New Film Has Release Date
The girls of Togenashi Togeari will return to theaters in May 2027 with an entirely new story, and the first trailer hints at a tour across all of Japan.
The girls of Togenashi Togeari are packing their bags, though itโs unlikely for a vacation. Toei Animation revealed a new trailer and promotional image for Girls Band Cry the Movie, confirming that the film will premiere on May 21, 2027 in Japanese cinemas. From the trailer, it appears Nina and her bandmates may be about to take their problems, arguments, and concerts far beyond the stages we know.
The interesting part is that this isnโt another compilation film. Unlike the two feature films released in 2025, the new production will tell an original story that continues the bandโs adventures. The first trailer even shows the protagonists traveling across different regions of Japan, while Nina excitedly announces a possible national tour for Togenashi Togeari.

Girls Band Cry to Take Concerts Across Japan
Although no full synopsis has been revealed, the trailer suggests that Togenashi Togeari may embark on a national tour, bringing their performances to various cities. The images also revisit some of the confrontations and moments that defined the first season, reminding us that these five girls have never been exactly the best at resolving their differences without arguing.
Of course, musical performances wonโt be missing. The trailer shows new concert sequences and hints at the presence of new songs, so the film will have more opportunities to showcase one of the aspects that made the original series stand out: its CG-animated musical performances.
The voice cast will return, featuring the five main members of the band: Rina as Nina Iseri, Yuri as Momoka Kawaragi, Mirei as Subaru Awa, Natsu as Tomo Ebizuka, and Shuri as Rupa. Itโs worth noting that the actresses are also part of Togenashi Togeariโs live-action version, so they perform both the characters and the songs in the franchise.
Regarding the production team, Kazuo Sakai will return as director, once again joined by Jukki Hanada on the scripts. The latter is known for his work on productions like Love Live! School Idol Project and Sound! Euphonium. Meanwhile, nari Teshima will continue handling character designs, while Kenji Tamai and Yusuke Tanaka will return for the music.
Girls Band Cry to Get a Theatrical Adaptation
But the news doesnโt end with the film. The team also announced that Girls Band Cry will get a theatrical adaptation, with performances set for March 21โ28, 2027 at the Sunshine Theatre in Tokyo. Additionally, the real Togenashi Togeari band will hold a concert on March 20 at the K-Arena Yokohama, just a day before the theatrical run begins.
Remember that Girls Band Cry began as a Toei Animation original anime that premiered in April 2024, with a total of thirteen episodes. The story follows Nina Iseri, a high school dropout who moves to Tokyo and forms a band with four other young women who havenโt had much luck in life. Amid personal problems, arguments, and songs, the protagonists try to find a place they truly belong.
The franchise returned to cinemas in 2025 with two compilation films, but this new entry will be the first to develop a completely original story for the big screen. For now, no international release has been confirmed, so fans outside Japan will have to wait for further announcements about distribution.
